Pearl Seas Cruises’ Pearl Mist Ready To Cruise The Great Lakes This Summer

Pearl MistSail the Great Lakes in style this summer with a new small-ship booking option — the oceangoing Pearl Seas Cruises, operated by the same owners as American Cruise Lines. Redefining luxury adventure, Pearl Seas Cruises starts with a new six-deck ship, the Pearl Mist, now undergoing final outfitting. The 210-passenger vessel is 335 feet long with a 56-foot beam and is registered in the Marshall Islands.

All 108, including 10 single cabins, have private balconies and all accommodation is accessible via interior corridors. An elevator connects all passenger decks and the ship has several wheelchair-friendly staterooms. Each stateroom has a full-sized private bathroom and large, flat-screen satellite TV with DVD player. Suites include two rooms plus bath with 580 sq ft of space. Room service is complimentary and laundry service is also available.

The ship has six lounges, a library, theatre and lecture room, computer workstations, fitness area and spa treatment room, as well as a medical facility. Open sun decks on the forward part of Deck 5 and all of Deck 6 allow passengers to enjoy scenic views, while sun shades are available on Deck 6. Cruise the Great Lakes from Toronto to Duluth or v.v. in the m.v. Yorktown – 10 nights – July & August 2013

Nearly 15,000 years ago, the last of the great glaciers retreated, leaving us with the legacy of the Great Lakes. Although they are called lakes, they are in reality vast inland seas that comprise one-fifth of the world’s fresh surface water. First used as a means of transport by Algonquin and Iroquois tribes, the lakes became a thriving commercial hub and a heavily travelled waterway with the arrival of European settlers. More than fifty years ago, the Great Lakes were the busiest waterway in the world and North America’s treasured summer destination. Setting forth from vibrant Toronto, venture through Lake Ontario to transit the modern engineering achievement of the Welland Canal and visit Niagara Falls before entering Lake Erie. Visit the glittering city of Detroit, which has enjoyed a renaissance, then sail Lake Huron and explore beautiful Mackinac Island, a Victorian-era haven at the entrance to Lake Michigan. From Sault Ste Marie, there is the option to enjoy a train ride through the dramatic scenery of the Agawa Canyon. After transitting the Soo Locks, enter Lake Superior, the largest and deepest of the Great Lakes. Sail along the impressive Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and revel in the pristine beauty of the Keweenaw Peninsula before reaching Duluth. For a truly rewarding voyage of discovery, join us aboard the 138-guest Yorktown as we explore the storied Great Lakes.
